PHOTOS: The Largest Solar - Powered Yatch In The World Arrived Into London

MS Turanor Planet Solar is the world's largest solar-powered boat, which resemble more "Starship Enterprise" than a modern catamaran, the 35-meter vessel came into London last week from Miami in June--its last stop on a scientific expedition across the Atlantic.

The wonderful solar boat is covered in over 500 square meters of solar panels, the 60-ton vessel is works with solar energy derived from the sun.

Over 800 solar panels charge enormous lithiumion batteries stowed in the catamaran's twin hulls, which power two electric motors at the back.

The yatch can work for 72 hours without the sun if the battery is charged full, says captain Gerrard d'Aboville, who is the first man to cruise the boat across the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans.

The total worth of the solar boat is about $16 million United States dollars, and it was named "Turanor" after the word for "power of the sun" in J.R.R Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

It may also prove to be the beginnings of an epic adventure -- this time on the high seas.
